Nizar MADDAR, a Tunisian musician and musicologist, holder of a doctorate in cultural sciences specializing in Music and Musical Sciences, began his musical journey at the age of 8 by joining the National Conservatory of Tunis. For a decade, he devoted himself to his learning, which led him to obtain his diploma in Arabic music in 1991. Subsequently, he continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Music of Tunis , where he obtained his master’s degree in music and musicology, before continuing at the Sorbonne University in Paris, where he obtained his master’s degree in 20th century music and musicology in 2002.
Since 1995, Nizar MADDAR has shared his knowledge of Oud as a teacher at the National Conservatory of Tunis and in various music schools for three years. At the same time, he was a member of the “Tunis National Music Troupe” and the “El Fan El Arabi Troupe”, participating in numerous national and international cultural events.
Through his solo and duo performances (oud and guitar), Nizar MADDAR has demonstrated his musical talents during concerts in France, Italy, Spain and beyond.
Currently, Nizar is a professor of oud and Arabic dictation and modal music theory at the Institut Supérieur de Musique de Tunis, where he also assumed the responsibility of director of the department of musicology and general education.
Nizar continually devotes himself to his research and activities related to Oud. Between his artistic performances, his participation in scientific research seminars and his educational commitments such as the organization of master classes and his participation as artistic director in several Tunisian festivals, he strives to apply all his experience and his know-how through Playoud plateform. Its goal is to simplify access to information and make even the most complex aspects accessible to all Oud lovers.
